Hello theater friends, since it’s already October and university begins, in my last blog post I will briefly reflect on my past couple of months as an editorial assistant at Neues Wiener Theater.
My name is Rali – I love writing, I am an exchange student at the University of Vienna and I am still not used to the german/austrian way of showing respect by knocking on the table after a lecture. During my internship I saw a lot of theater plays, wrote about an exhibition, worked on a theater project, conducted an interview and got to know a complete alien to me – Instagram! All of this taught me that being an editor is much broader and more exciting than I thought it would be.
Sometimes my work was too exciting, adventure – like, such as that one time when I met the actors after a play at MQ and somehow got invited to their after party. Other times it was not exciting at all like having to research and create a press distribution list. Both examples eventually taught me how to get out of my comfort zone and combine the creative and technical aspects of an editorial position.
I feel lucky that all of this happened in Vienna (or since we became closer – Wiem), which I genuinely love because of its artistic reputation. Being part of the team was a great experience for me since it enabled me get a closer look at the city’s theater scene and sometimes even daydream of one day being part of it.
I am looking forward to seeing how the Neue Wiener community grows in the future but for now – I must say Goodbye! Until I see you again at one of the Neue Wiener Stammtisch and talk about theater over a cup of coffee. Ciao, ciao!
